After These Messages.......

So I gave up on Blog! After talking with some new friends I made on The Children's Party Network I have been convinced to start writing again. If you missed me then I apologize for leaving but I am back and with a different approach as I ironically stated on my facebook page.
It's sometimes hard to have faith in something when you feel no one is listening! Thats basically how I felt but I have a purpose for being here and I created this blog for a reason so I am not giving up on it that easy. This is a tricky business, this event planning business and I have hit a few bumps but I am brushing off my knees and starting the race again! Hopefully you didn't go to far and we can reconnect! As always thanks for reading! See you soon!

NKOTB (New Kid On The Block)

I am still convinced this blog is therapeutic for me, I did not realize how much I actually enjoy writing until I decided to start this. With my writing I am hoping to attract more viewers and urge current viewers to leave comments, but first I need to find my niche with these topics. What are people talking about in the event planning world? What keeps viewers coming back? I know I am new in this field and I try not to put too much pressure on myself but I just want to get to the point where my projects are increasing and brainstorms are more than just sketches. I was just saying to a friend the other day, I really have no reason to complain. I have a new project at least once a month so the business is coming along just sometimes it feels like I have more time to myself than I have planning for others but the one thing I am grateful for is still being able to have downtime to try new ideas. This is the time when I get to donate items as well. That flower cupcake in the clear box was given to a coworker, she said and I quote "It's too pretty to eat." I like to hear things like this so it keeps me going. So if you have visited my blog, I thank you and I hope you will continue to visit and maybe even follow it. If this is your first time visiting I also thank you and hope that I can continue to give you the information and ideas your are looking for or maybe just give you some sort of inspiration if you are thinking about getting into the event planning field. I appreciate you all, thanks again for reading!

Labor Day Weekend

Spirits are better today, I don't know if it's because of the extended weekend or because I've been brainstorming. Whatever it is it has gotten me over my hump. Looking forward to the weekend and the ending of the summer. For some reason I didn't enjoy the weather too much this season. I had no time to really enjoy the outdoors and my electric bill is crazy due to running AC's and fans. My daughter will be turning 5 in another 3 weeks and I am super excited about giving her a party. Just don't have a theme decided on as of yet. Most likely it will be Hello Kitty or a Noggin themed party! See I am still undecided. I know one thing whatever I choose to do, it will be fabulous. So on another note, be safe this holiday weekend, for all my West Indians, enjoy the parkway safely and responsibly (Brooklyn is going to be crazy from tonight into Monday). I have a few festivities I have been invited to so I will be out and about and we will meet back here next week. Thanks for listening.

Momma said there be days like this...........

OMG, Today I am feeling hopeless and clueless! Sometimes I find when you are passionate about something your adrenaline is always pumping! You're Ready! Excited! Then it slows down and you begin to feel like is this for me! Why have I invested so much time in something that's not promised to me or at least promised to be successful! I am good for being a cheerleader for everyone else but when I have these moments when I creatively crippled, mind is on stand by or the idea was already executed, I too need a support system! I am a faithful believer in whatever is worth having is worth fighting and waiting for, but sometimes I just wish I had it already. This is just me being a frustrated artist in need of some creative energy! I love what I do, I love when I am trusted to provide services for people how proud I feel of myself and my work, but there are days when I question my ability to be a successful business owner! I know this feeling will pass but I needed to get it out! At the end of the day it's all a piece of cake, or is it? Thanks for listening!

First Impressions

When you first looked at this cupcake what did you think? Honestly! I care so much about my overall appearence of my products that I try and imagine what the person receiving this might say when they see it. I hope that when people order any item from me, I am leaving them with a first impression that will last a lifetime.

It's Electric

I purchased the new line of color gels from Duff "Ace of Cakes" and I was pretty impressed! The color takes pretty quickly and it's nice and pure! I used the Gold and the Electric Blue for the Build A Bear cupcakes. I hate when I need to use a specific color and not only do you need to use so much of it to get the color but it alters the taste of the icing. I am drumming up some cupcake ideas for the Electric Green and Purple! With Halloween right around the corner, it should not be too hard to get inspired! I urged you to try these if you haven't already and feel free to send me pics of your finished products!

Do me a Favor!

Additional Favor Boxes filled with molded chocolates and other popular goodies
(Silly Bands, and neon glow in dark bracelets)

A Cupcake Favor Box decorated for Ivana's 4th Birthday

Birthday Girl, Ivana celebrating her 4th Birthady with Friends and Family.
Jahmira and Ivana had a nice time together.

So I decorated these cupcake favors boxes for the Build A Bear Birthday party planned. Not the best pictures. I found out that my lovely son decided to take my rechargeable batteries out of my camera for his Xbox controller, so I had the pleasure of running around the mall looking for batteries. The lighting in the Food Court wasn't as good as in the store. Individual cupcakes were decorated in a primary color theme and coordinated with the theme of the boxes. Handmade cupcake picks and images downloaded cut out and colored using Stampin Up ink and blender pens! I really like these cupcake boxes, they are so handy. They are easy to assemble and decorate. I received a positive reaction from both parents and children so I guess I can these are a keeper!

Build A Bear

I am taking my daughter to a Build A Bear party this Saturday and I, I mean she is very excited! I was asked to make individual cupcakes for the children invited, along with goody bags! Oh yea! I like planning kids parties, they seem less intimidating than adults, but they're really not! If a child is not happy, you will know. Adults on the other hand will try and be polite about it! Anyways I had a sketch all worked out and I am finding the items I planned to use are not as available as I wished. I sometimes wished I could open my own store and sell all the things my neighborhood overlooks! Some of us want to be different and not have the same items at our parties that the last 100 customers just purchased! So now that I am planning around my original plans, I am hoping to stay on schedule. Looking forward to the challenge and my fingers are crossed.

So the baby shower plans went well, Dessert table looked fabulous! I had a lot of help from my family and I am so proud of everyone's effort and decorating abilties. In total we produced 4 dozen cupcakes, lollipops, chocolate covered marshmallows and preztels and cake balls! Also 80 favors that were placed at each table setting, 4 glass centerpieces with lifesaver pacifiers and a diaper cake! We put alot of work into preparing for this shower and I was happy to see the guest of honor in awe! A super huge thank you to Sophia for allowing me the opportunity to decorate and prepare so many yummy desserts!

Center of Attention

Remember I told you I took a trip to the Christmas Tree Shop last week? Well I decided to turn these regular glass vases I purchased into table centerpieces for the Baby Shower I am decorating next week. This idea can come in handy for many reasons and occasions. You can fill them with color coordinating candy, or other items like iridescent shred, marbles, or whatever your theme calls for. I was actually thinking of packaging this idea as a gift as well. Simply add baby themed items inside, wrap in cellophane, add a pretty ribbon and gift tag and its ready to go! Try adding the baby's name with rhinestones for a more personable gift. You can use this idea on many types of material other than glass, it can also be added to the theme of the baby's room for items that hold things like q-tips or cotton balls. The ideas are endless. By the way I am still learning how to showcase the items that I make as you can see with my home made photo studio!

Baby Bling

is the newest and hottest craze for baby shower ideas, gifts and accessories. As seen on the new hit cable show "Platinum Babies" on WEtv, people will spend amazing amounts of money to keep up with this trend and not just celebrities. Items such as pacifiers, shoes, clothing, rattles are just a few items that all have been decked out with some serious bling.

Where can you get it? I have put together a list of links where you can find these items here on the web.

I made a cake today for a coworker who had a Backyard Luau/Birthday Party. I was pleased with the turn out of this cake especially since I don't get that many cake orders. I was kind of nervous about having so much space to mess up, Cakes aren't as easy to me as cupcakes. Cupcakes are cute and fun. Decorating a whole sheet cake almost felt like I painting a canvas! I wish I could have been a little more creative but I was worried I wasn't going to have enough room for all the information written on the cake, I can honestly say I can't wait to work on another one. It felt good to see the reactions from people when the box lid was opened, People were taking pictures and smiling, some were amazed at the cake and others were amazed that I did it! LOL! I think I was just as amazed. Thanks again Cheneail for trusting me with your event. Can't wait to do it again!

B is for Baby Boy

Photo found online via Google
Preparing for a Baby Shower in another 3 weeks, I took a trip to the Christmas Tree Shop. Don't understand where the name comes from because I did not see one Christmas Tree or Ornament, but I did find some really good items to decorate with. The baby shower I am preparing for was inspired by a group of photos found on the web. The color scheme is different blues, green, turquoise and silver. I wish I knew how to add these silver teddy bears and I will research it and let you know if I find anything. This is going to be fun. Cannot wait to show you my spin on this idea even though it will be pretty challenging to top!

Dulce DeLeche Cheesecakes, Yummy. I had to find a way to make this look just as good as it taste! So I decided to dig into my box of supplies and put something simple together. The tag was made from a Stampin' Up Rubber Stamp line called "Yummy" I used the stamp "A Little Yummy For Your Tummy" on Whisper White Card stock and cut out around the shape. Tied the tag to a pretty bright pink organza ribbon and I'd say this is a well dressed cake!

Just Getting Warmed Up

So as I solict friends and family to follow this blog, I don't want to loose focus of why we are here. I am a novice event planner looking to unite with other event planners of all levels. This week I am actually making Mini Dulce Deleche Cheesecakes for a few friends and Coworkers, Cake Balls are always on the menu (they are just that good!) and I need to research and get some more sketches together for a Luau Cake due this Saturday so I pretty much have a busy next couple of days but still I am researching. I was so excited about starting this blog I have 2 postings in one day.

Welcome to my blog, I decided to name my blog "Piece of Cake?" because I like cake, I mean I really like cake! I am the type of person who looks at the dessert menu before deciding what to eat for dinner, and if they don't have a dessert menu then I probably won't order dinner! I recently graduated with a degree in Baking and Pastry and I started my own Event Coordinating Business. I am skilled in many areas of decorating but still I want more. I want to plan all types of events or at least make them look nice. Like some of my inspirations Martha Stewart and B Smith, I plan to have my hands in all that's under the umbrella of event planning. Thanks for visiting.
